BROADBAND: Things Cable & Phone Companies Don't Tell You |
||
![]() |
This website is mainly dedicated to those who have had their 1st Cable Modem/DSL for 1-24 days. Intermediate and even some advanced users will also hopefully find 5 or 9 interesting and helpful tidbits here. BROADBAND consists mainly of useful links and commercial downloads relating to getting top performance out of your high-speed modem. My own experience fine tuning, some do's and don't's are also included (my perspective remember). |

Okay , here we go. AFTER you have installed the speedpatch from speedguide.net (the one most commonly used is "sguide_tweak_98_ME"), and rebooted your computer, well, try it out. Do some surfing. Download something. THEN, I suggest the following to further 'enhance' performance of said speed patch:Go to the microsoft Homepage > Highlight Downloads Tab & clic Windows Update > Dwnld ALL of the CRITICAL Updates >reboot > run scandisk & defrag (in defrag, clic settings button on 1st popup little window > UNCHECK the TOP Box & check the 2nd one. The top box is bullshit); return to microsoft updates page > download and install any 'recommended' updates that you will REALLY USE (or are at least interested in). I find it very handy to write down the dwnld title (some of 'em don't give a hint as to what their actual function is), & beside it write down briefly what each dwnld actually is/does. This way, U wanna Uninstall it, you have the filename. TRY (I know it can be difficult) & use a SEPERATE PIECE of PAPER for this. Reboot again > go to start > programs > asscessories > system tools > disk cleanup (little whisk broom icon) > ONLY CHECK top line (temporary internet files) > delete them > run System Mechanic if you have it (see Links Page) > clic SYSTEM Button > Scan Registry > remove any shown files > exit window > clic files tab > clic to "Find & remove junk & obsolete files" (top line) > clic Scan in upper right > Remove all shown files > and unless you REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOIN' I'd let it go at that > exit System Mechanic > run scandisk & defrag again & reboot. You system should be running noticably quicker.
